Not Yer Man

Promo film for the quirky earworm 'Not Yer Man', from  Ali's latest album 'Sanctuary Wood'. Telling the story of a work-shy guy on long-term sick leave who dreams of a different life in a rock n roll band. Filmed at The American Bar and various other locations in Belfast, no dogs, work colleagues, Volvos or pints were harmed in the making of this film.

Recorded in 2007 by Colin Harper's occasional studio band, the Legends of Tomorrow, which on this occasion featured: Ciaran Gribbin - vocal, Colin Harper - guiitars, Ali MacKenzie - bass, Gary Harden - drums. Ali's bass playing is, Colin feels, especially superb here.

Dave McLarnon's Hat Band

On the last weekend before the apocalypse, four bands associated with the legendary Warehouse venue played a 'Warehouse Remembered' show at the Pavilion.  A version of Dave McLarnon's Hat Band came together and this time, he was joined for a set of Ulster rock classics by Norman Boyd (guitar, Stonefish / Protext), Billy Shovel (guitar, Ghost of An American Airman), the one and only Ali MacKenzie (bass, Bush Turkeys / everyone) and the Legendary Petesy Burns (drums, Stalag 17 / Outcasts / ARSE).

What's Going On? | Sam Davidson's Taste

Live at the American Bar, Belfast, 17/8/19. Guitarmeister Sam inherited the Taste name having played with John Wilson and Richard 'Charles' McCracken in a rebooted version of Taste in the 90s. Here, Sam is joined by the legendary Ali MacKenzie on bass, - sitting in (before becoming a regular member in 2021), would you believe - Linley 'The Groove' McMullan on drums and 'Dancing Dave' Taylor on guest vocals.
